Building Careers since 1917

ICD is a not-for-profit workforce development organization based in New York City. Our mission is to help people transform their lives through career development and employment.

We have been a leader in the field of vocational rehabilitation since our founding in 1917.  We provide vocational evaluation, career planning services, job skills training programs, internships, and job placement services to adults, youth, veterans, entry level employees, and career changers.

We guide our participants through the process of assessing their career interests, developing an individualized career plan, finding a job training program that is right for them, preparing for, entering, and keeping good jobs.  Our dedicated team of teachers and counselors provide support every step of the way, including one-on-one and group counseling, job placement assistance, and job retention supports. We specialize in serving people with barriers to employment.  All of ICD's job training programs are licensed by the New York State Education Department.

ICD MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Before coming to ICD, our students are unemployed an average of two years and most are living at or below the poverty line.

  • ICD’s graduates receive competitive starting salaries, earning on average two dollars over the NYS minimum wage.
  • Many graduates go on to earn substantially higher salaries and receive health benefits.

Salaries such as these help ICD’s clients establish financial security for themselves and their families. But the difference is more than financial:

“I came to ICD yearning for a miracle. I have now become a valuable employee and received promotions because of the lessons I learned through my excellent ICD counselors and teachers. I am now a successful professional, wife, and mother of two.”

M.H., Human Services Assistant graduate
