With a holistic, patient-centered approach, ICD's staff can evaluate and treat children and adolescents who have unique developmental and treatment needs, including:
Our comprehensive team can, when appropriate, coordinate care among all ICD services - pediatric medicine, neurology, speech and language services, physical and occupational therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, psychology, psychiatry, and others—to maximize a young person's potential.
Speech, Language and Learning Services
The Center for Speech/Language and Hearing consists of New York State licensed, Department of Education certified staff who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and personalized intervention for your child. Both formal (standardized tests) and informal (language samples) measures are used to assure that the most accurate profile is attained.
During an evaluation both strengths and weaknesses are captured in an attempt to understand the child’s learning style. A cohesive individualized plan is then developed with the child’s parent(s) and educators as full partners.
Child Psychology and Learning Disabilities
ICD’s Department of Education Certified clinical and school psychologists and neuropsychologists evaluate and treat children of all ages. We regularly work with a wide range of potential problems including cognitive, behavioral and emotional issues that might be related to developmental, family and/or school concerns.
Learning Disability assessments and/or psycho-educational evaluations investigate the nature of a child’s learning differences. Complete with a Speech/Language and an Auditory Processing evaluation our team creates a comprehensive and individualized plan incorporating the child’s strengths to help overcome obstacles.
On occasion an individual with learning difficulty might benefit from and qualify for Special Testing Accommodations when they take certain standardized tests such as the SAT, the GRE, the ERB and others. These ‘accommodations’ might include extended time, preferential seating, auditory or visual assistance or others.
Employing confidential and specialized testing protocols, ICD’s psychologists can advocate for the individual with a clear diagnosis and very specific recommendations allowing the students to fully demonstrate their knowledge.
Our assessments are completely confidential and can be scheduled at your convenience.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physiatry
ICD's pediatricians and pediatric physiatrists make detailed evaluations of children's health needs. When appropriate, they refer children to our occupational and physical therapists.
Our occupational therapists improve functions for daily living and build fine motor skills, while our physical therapists focus on gross motor development to enhance a child's ability to move and participate in their environment. With these services, children overcome functional barriers more easily, so they can participate in age-appropriate activities.
ICD offers sensory integration therapy in our new, state-of-the-art pediatric gym. This special therapy helps children organize and process sensory input, enhancing their ability to respond appropriately to their environment.
Post-Adoption Services
The unique post-adoption team at ICD makes collaborative assessments and provides interventions for the potential delays, disorders, and health issues that can affect adopted children.
Our team includes specialists in the fields of attachment, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cognitive development, learning disabilities, language development, and sensory integration. ICD's partnerships with some of the most renowned and respected adoption specialists in the country ensure that the care we deliver meets the highest standards.
