Windy fell into a coma when a piece of candy blocked her breathing. When she finally awoke after two years, she was unable to recognize anyone, not even her two daughters. She was transferred to a nursing home for the next two years.

Following her stay at the nursing home, she went to live with her younger sister but soon found herself on a "bad track" with alcohol. She moved into a shelter and later sought help at a detox center. "It was there that I realized something was wrong with me and decided I wanted to do something about it."

VESID [Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities] sent Windy to ICD for Vocational Training because she wanted to be a drug counselor. Her training involves occupational therapy and meeting with a vocational counselor. "As a result, I have been relearning how to read, synthesize information and develop strategies for daily life. I also see other doctors here when needed. The people are nice and friendly. ICD is helping me so much."
