Susan Scheer, CEO and Workforce Warrior for ICD, writes a cutting-edge piece for Gotham Gazette titled "COVID-19 Sheds New Light on Innovations Long Championed by People with Disabilities.” The piece, published on December 3, 2020, discusses how many workplace adaptations made in response to COVID-19, such as flexible hours, working from home, and Zoom meetings, have been advocated for by people with disabilities for years. However, the business community is only now seeing that accessibility and accommodations offer benefits for everyone.

In the piece, Ms. Scheer says,

Necessity may be the mother of invention. But what should not be missed is that such accommodations were long championed by people with disabilities, only to have been met with resistance. COVID-19 proved that not only were these changes manageable, but they were also improvements with widespread benefits.
