ICD’s “School to Success” Program

In 2022, ICD launched its “School to Success” program, which is a long-term, early career readiness program that brings ICD’s demonstrated workforce development expertise directly into NYC public high schools to serve youth with disabilities. The program supports students as they transition from high school to post-secondary vocational training, college, or directly into the workforce.

Launched in Discovery High School in the Bronx and Richmond Hill High School in Queens, ICD’s “School to Success” program currently serves over 400 students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans by providing holistic navigation services through a school-based coach/counselor called a Navigator.

ICD’s Navigators work with youth starting in the 9th grade and persisting through at least one-year post-graduation. Five key services are provided to students based on need through this program, including:

  1. Intake, assessment, and evaluation to engage students in developing a career plan

  2. Long-term coaching and psychosocial support to help students develop resiliency

  3. Parental/caregiver education and involvement to deepen student support networks

  4. Group-based workshops, including interview preparation, resume-building, work readiness/soft skills training, benefits and financial counseling, and digital literacy

  5. Connection to a constellation of vetted service providers including vocational training schools, college counselors and accessibility offices, and job placement professionals
